A private practice, built around you

Placeholder portrait of the electrologist

Hello, and thank you for looking. I am [PLACEHOLDER: practitioner name], and Pretty Kitty Electrolysis is my private practice — one client in the room at a time, no open bays, no rushing, and no judgement about where your hair comes from or who you are.

Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as permanent, and it works on every skin tone and every hair colour, including grey, white, blonde and red hair. This is a gender-affirming practice: whatever your identity, whatever brought you in, you are welcome here exactly as you are.

My [PLACEHOLDER: credential] and approach are still being written up here, so this space stays honest — you will always be told what a session can realistically do, what it cannot, and why the plan looks the way it does.

  • One-to-one appointments in a private room.
  • Honest treatment planning with no upselling.
  • Welcoming gender-affirming care clients.
  • Serving [PLACEHOLDER: city, state].

Electrolysis, explained plainly

Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recognizes as permanent: a fine probe is placed at the base of each follicle to stop it growing for good. Because it targets the follicle rather than the pigment in the hair, it works on every skin tone and every hair colour — including grey, white, blonde and red hair that laser cannot treat — and it can treat hair driven by hormones as well as hair driven by genetics.

  • Galvanic

A small, gentle chemical reaction is created inside the follicle to stop the hair from growing. It takes a little longer per hair, which makes it a good match for stubborn, coarse or deeply rooted hairs and for curved follicles.

  • Thermolysis

A short burst of gentle heat is delivered into the follicle to disable the growth. It is quick, which makes it useful for finer hairs and for larger areas where speed and comfort matter.

  • Blend

The chemical and heat approaches are combined in one setting. It is often chosen when a follicle resists a single method, or when the hair and skin call for a more tailored approach.

What to expect

Before your appointment

  1. Let the hair grow to a few millimetres — about two to three days — so the probe can follow it into the follicle.
  2. Skip sun, tanning beds and self-tanner beforehand, and arrive with clean skin and no lotion or makeup on the area.
  3. Leave the hair alone between appointments: no tweezing, waxing or plucking. Shaving is fine.

After your appointment

  • Slight redness and mild swelling are normal and usually settle within a few hours to a day.
  • Be gentle: cool the area, wash with a mild cleanser, and skip scrubs, acids and retinoids for about 24 hours.
  • Protect treated skin from the sun with sunscreen and shade, and avoid saunas, hot tubs and hot yoga for a day.

Frequently asked questions

Does electrolysis hurt?

Most people feel a brief pinpoint sensation with each hair — quick and sharp rather than lingering. Sensitivity varies by area and by person, and the settings can be adjusted at any time. If something feels too strong, say so and we will slow down or pause.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no honest single number, because it depends on the area, your hair's thickness and colour, your hormones, and how your body responds. Hair grows in cycles and only actively growing hairs can be treated, so sessions are spaced out over time. Your progress is reviewed regularly and the plan adjusted, rather than a fixed count promised up front.

Is it really permanent?

Yes — electrolysis is the only method of hair removal the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recognizes as permanent, because it destroys the growth cells of the follicle rather than trimming or pulling the hair. Treated hairs do not grow back, while untreated follicles can keep producing hair, which is why the plan works across your natural growth cycles.

Can I shave between appointments?

Yes. Shaving cuts the hair at the surface and leaves the root in place, so it does not interfere with your next session. What to avoid is tweezing, waxing and plucking, which pull the hair out entirely and leave nothing for us to treat next time.

Is it safe for my skin tone, and what about hormonal hair growth?

Yes — electrolysis does not depend on pigment, so it is suitable for every skin tone and every hair colour. Hormonal hair growth, from PCOS, pregnancy, perimenopause or hormone therapy, is a common reason people come in and can be treated effectively; hormones can stimulate new follicles over time, so some clients plan maintenance alongside whatever their healthcare provider recommends. Share any skin conditions, sensitivities or medications at your consultation so the settings can be chosen with your skin in mind, and note that electrolysis is not a treatment for an underlying condition itself.
